A case of emergency electrical services
You never know when you might need electrical services
(The following is a dramatization.)
It was Sunday afternoon at the Hendersons’ residence. Mrs. Henderson was in right in the middle of preparing a big dinner for her husband’s birthday party. When she opened the oven to put the roast in, she realized something was wrong — the oven hadn’t preheated.
She checked the light over the stove. The light wouldn’t come on either. About this time it occurred to her that she hadn’t heard the refrigerator or freezer running for… how long? At least a few minutes. When she opened the fridge door and the light didn’t come on, she quickly closed it again. Mrs. Henderson prided herself on leaving a lot of margin for error when estimating time needed for cooking, but if the kitchen needed major repairs before she could put anything in the oven, that was going to be a problem. Not to mention everything in the fridge or freezer that might spoil or melt if this went on too long..
She checked the rest of the kitchen. The ceiling light was on, and the socket on the opposite wall seemed to be working. Mrs. Henderson wanted to try unplugging the stove and fridge and plugging them into that socket using extension cords, but there was a problem — the outlet she needed was behind the fridge, she wasn’t quite strong enough to move it, and her husband had hurt his back recently.
Fortunately, she knew a Fort Mill electrician that served the greater Charlotte area and offered 24-hour emergency electrical services. She called them up, and in a matter of minutes an electrician was there. It turned out the problem was that aerosolized kitchen grease had built up on the outlet to the point where it might have been dangerous to handle, so the ground-fault interrupter had been tripped. Resetting the GFI was easy, and safely cleaning the outlets (though very embarrassing to Mrs. Henderson, who prided herself on the cleanliness of the parts of the kitchen she could normally get at) didn’t take much longer. Thanks to 24-hour electrical services, the big dinner was served right on schedule, although the roast hadn’t had as much time to cool.
